paper hats render a jagged image of noise rock to come, combining prog, math rock, and post-punkisms into cacophonous yet enigmatic live performance. formed in london in 2022, the three piece comprised of clem contreras (guitar/vox), gabe khitarishvili-awde (bass/vox), and matthew duffy (drums), drawing on the diy ethos of the city's noisy, cramped nightlife venues. joining the line-up later in 2022, ben wyvis's songwriter sam eccleston (guitar/vox) provides a lyrical counterbalance to the band's wall-of-sound approach, producing the invigorating and dynamic take on guitar music which paper hats offers to its live audiences.
having only been on the london post-punk circuit for 6 months, they have made waves in the scene. having played their first headline at the windmill in january 2024; headlining the windmill twice since; supporting bands such as automotion, cowboyy & the orchestra (for now) and recording a session at eastcote studios for dolby, the band is quickly becoming an immovable force in the scene.
